The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed reports of a grid collapse, clarifying that the power disruption experienced on February 12 was due to line tripping, not a total grid failure.
In a statement released on its official X handle, TCN explained that the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped while the Benin-Egbin 330kV line was undergoing scheduled maintenance.
It said this led to a cascaded outage affecting power supply in Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo.
The company assured that power restoration to the affected areas has been completed, while other regions remained unaffected.
TCN further clarified that only the National Control Centre System Operator or its designated backup, the National Supplementary Control Centre (SNCC), has the authority to provide official updates on grid status.
