President Bola Tinubu has instructed the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to launch a nationwide campaign educating Nigerians about the dangers of scooping fuel from overturned tankers.
This comes after a tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government Area, which killed 86 people and injured 55 others.
The President condemned the incident, calling it tragic and preventable.
Tinubu expressed condolences to the victims’ families and the Niger State government and ordered the provision of medical care for the injured and directed security agencies to implement measures to prevent similar accidents.
Earlier, Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA),Abdullahi Baba-Arah confirmed the explosion claimed 86 lives with 80 victims buried in a mass grave, while six others were returned to their families for burial.
He said 55 others were injured and currently receiving medical care.
