
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the murder of a Cleric of the Celestial Church of Christ, Eagle Parish, Idiroko, Yomi Adetula by armed men during a church service today.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the church along Old Baggage Road, Idiroko.
The assailants, armed with a double-barrel gun, shot Adetula multiple times before fleeing towards the border.
She added, “On careful observation, his body was riddled with bullets and his head was not speared, to ensure the victim was really dead it was mangled to death.
“On police inquiry, information further revealed that three men came into the church brought out long double barrel gun aimed at their target and fire a shot that brought the deceased down.”
Adetula was also the Idiroko Unit Commander of the Ogun State So-SAFE Corps, a community security outfit and had been involved in clashes with smuggling cartels in the area, prompting his temporary relocation to Abuja in late 2024.
Odutola said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and determine the motive behind the killing.
The statement had it that the remains of Adetula has been recovered and deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ilaro.
