The All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in 16 of the 18 local government areas (LGAs) in the recently conducted council elections in Ondo State.
Chairman of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Joseph Aremo, announced the results today in Akure, the state capital where he also confirmed that the APC won all councillorship seats in the 16 declared LGAs.
Aremo revealed that the election in Ondo West LGA was rescheduled due to an outdated version of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) logo on the ballot papers which arose from the late approval of its new logo last year.
“The party’s concerns are valid, but the preparations for the election were already far advanced before the logo change was finalised,” Aremo said, assuring that all arrangements for the rescheduled election will be properly concluded.
At the time of briefing newsmen, Aremo said the results from Owo LGA were still being awaited.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier withdrawn from the elections, alleging that ODIEC could not ensure a free and fair process but Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, dismissed the PDP’s withdrawal as “an act of cowardice.”
