
A petrol tanker explosion in Dikko, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, has claimed numerous lives, including women and children, with residents estimating the death toll at over 100.
The tragic incident occurred around 9 a.m. today when the tanker overturned.
While the exact number of victims remains unclear, an official from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) indicated that a detailed assessment will only be possible after the fire is fully extinguished.
Meanwhile, Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago who described the explosion as heartbreaking and unfortunate, extended condolences to the families of the victims and offered prayers for the injured.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor urged residents to prioritize safety and directed relevant government agencies to provide necessary support. Security agents have also been tasked with maintaining order in the affected area.
