British heavyweight boxer, Tyson Fury has declared his retirement from the sport in a surprise Instagram announcement.
The 36-year-old former world champion stated, “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast.”
The announcement follows his recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk and comes despite reports that Wembley Stadium had been reserved for a potential summer clash with Anthony Joshua.
Sky News sports correspondent Rob Harris expressed skepticism about the finality of this decision, noting Fury’s history of retirement reversals. “If it is [the end], he has had one of the great British heavyweight boxing careers, but with that element of caution, he does often make these announcements then decide he can’t resist the lure of the ring,” Harris said.
Fury previously retired after his victory over Dillian Whyte in 2022, only to return to the sport later that year.
Fury’s last retirement, two years ago, came after his claim that he was done with the sport following his third fight with Deontay Wilder.
