The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles.
This decision, recommended by the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee during their meeting on January 2, 2025, was formally endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on January 7, 2025.
Chelle, 47, previously served as the head coach of Mali’s senior national team, bringing with him a wealth of experience from managing clubs like GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran. During his playing career, he represented several French clubs including Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais.
Born to a French father and Malian mother, Chelle opted to represent Mali internationally, earning five caps. As Mali’s head coach from 2022 to 2024, he led the team to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelle takes over with immediate effect and his primary task will be guiding Nigeria through the crucial Matchday 5 and 6 qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in March.
