The docility of Nigerians is complicity in the Nigerian Malaise.
A country is a grand collection of many collectives. Those collectives are variegated along lines of ethnicity and religion. Those lines are also intersected with greed and a parlous idea of grand larceny.
In the collective, there’s also a convolution with sentiments, political perfidy, National Perfidy,Sexual perfidy, Judicial Perfidy, colonialism, Narcissistic Nationalism, bigotry, putrefactive hate, Rent-Seeking (Couched as Capitalism) and many other parlous traits that brings a sane mind to paranoia.
Unpacking the above. I will also say we have a people as Nigerians that have pitched their tents to many of these necrotic patterns in fighting for survival and “allegedly building a nation” they end up destroying. They claim to be buffalo soldiers but they have become like a rampaging bull in the china shop of a responsible national ethos, for them it’s their national ego that matters.
These people claim to love Nigeria but they kill Nigeria everyday. These people have sucked Nigerias dry and they are still sucking. Imagine if Nigeria were like brisket bone, they have eaten it all, licked, sucked, emulsified with saliva and enjoyed it all. Despite all these, they are not satisfied and they still want more. Some of these people are AGIP’s (Any Government in Power). As long as they can get access to the National cake they are satisfied and in the end, they claim the love of country.
These people are also Nigerians and they are complicit in the problems of Nigeria. These people have big platforms where they cry for a better Nigeria everyday, but they know if it gets better they are doomed.
As all of this play out, I am more shocked at the indescribable docility of Nigerians that truly want Nigeria to be better, their docility is akin to a billionaire with a slave mentality. In fact, these Nigerians have become slaves to the ruiners of Nigeria.
These are people that are paid pittance to support evil and wanton destruction. These docile class of Nigerians don’t have a choice, as they have joined the “e go better” bandwagon. I am sure they heard that in the 70s, when Nigeria was surging with oil wealth and Circa 50 years after they still hear that, but when Journalists hold politicians accountable for them— they say “Sufri do am”.
It is this docile Nigerian class that after a politician fails woefully, they say vote for him because he’s from my tribe/religion. It seems to me that the grey matter might have been scooped out like ice cream. One wonders, how do these docile Nigerian class think and is it that the Stockholm syndrome effect is so strong .
On a second thought, I don’t think so, I have categorized them into the awaiting to join class. They are docile because they think at some point they will join the class with access to the national cake. At least, we have seen Labour leaders that claim to be fighting for the people but once they got on the other side, the message changed. We have also seen freedom fighters do the same.
In all of this, where is the hope for the common man, when will the common man enjoy this Nigeria we all dream of. I believe things will only get better when the docile class starts to hold government accountable irrespective of their own selfish desires. Will they ever do that?
