The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON has noted that over 30 states have conducted elections for Local Government councils following the Supreme Court judgment which granted financial autonomy to LGs nationwide.
ALGON made this known in a communique made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday following its just concluded National Executive Council Meeting, which was held in Katsina State on December 14, 2024.
The communique noted that the meeting resulted in key resolutions that underscore the association’s commitment to strengthening local governance in Nigeria.
ALGON expressed its gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support in empowering local governments to fulfill their constitutional mandates. The judiciary was also commended for its role in establishing a viable local government system that aligns with the popular will of the masses.
