Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has assured People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state that his administration sees them as assets, not burdens to society.
The Governor made this statement at the 2024 International Day of People Living with Disabilities celebration, held at the Jibowu Hall, Government House Ground, Ado Ekiti. He emphasized that PWDs are responsible and determined individuals who can reshape the narratives in their respective communities.
To support PWDs, the Governor presented over 200 assisting devices, including wheelchairs and white canes. He encouraged PWDs to be active participants in community development, pursue their dreams, and contribute meaningfully to society.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, at the event, Governor Oyebanji said his administration has implemented policies and programs promoting inclusion, acceptability, and opportunities for everyone. He urged PWDs to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, advocate for their rights, and seek collaboration with others to foster love, acceptance, and understanding.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Adetoun Agboola, appreciated the Governor’s commitment to supporting the PWD community. She highlighted the government’s significant contributions, including establishing inclusive environments, facilitating skills training, and introducing programs to enhance accessibility.
