Leicester City has appointed Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager, weeks after his brief interim role at Manchester United.
The Dutchman replaces Steve Cooper, who was sacked after just 12 Premier League games, leaving Leicester 16th on the table, one point above relegation. Van Nistelrooy expressed excitement about joining the Foxes, praising their recent history, which includes a stunning Premier League win in 2015/16 and an FA Cup triumph in 2021.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, brings managerial experience from PSV Eindhoven (2022/23). He will officially assume duties on Sunday but will attend Saturday’s game against Brentford, led by caretaker Ben Dawson.
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha lauded Van Nistelrooy’s “experience, knowledge, and winning mentality,” expressing confidence in his ability to guide the club.
