Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has appointed US-born Yechiel Leiter as the next Israeli ambassador to the United States.
Leiter whose son was killed last year in the Gaza war against Palestinian militant group Hamas previously served as deputy director general in the Education Ministry and acting chairman of the Israel Ports Company.
He also served as Chief of Staff in the Ministry of Finance prior to this latest appointment.
His appointment follows closely on the heels of Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election, which was widely celebrated in Israel due to Trump’s strong support for the country.
