The House of Representatives has advanced a bill to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Orile, Lagos State, for third reading.
The bill sponsored by Lanre Okunlola of Surulere II seeks to amend the Federal Medical Centres Act, to accommodate the establishment of a new centre in view of the growing population and healthcare needs of Lagos.
Okunlola argued that Lagos’s high population places severe pressure on current healthcare facilities, making it difficult to provide adequate, quality care.
He described the proposed centre as a strategic solution to relieve existing hospitals.
The bill still requires a third reading before it can be sent to the Senate for concurrence.
