The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has warned roadside beggars in Abuja, urging them to vacate the streets or be arrested.
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, delivered the ultimatum during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an access road in Katampe District.
Wike expressed concern over the growing number of beggars, describing it as a security threat to the city.
He set an October 27, 2024, deadline for them to leave the streets, urging families to intervene before enforcement begins on Monday.
Wike said, “Yes, we are providing infrastructure in Abuja, and security is not left out. We can’t allow beggars all over the place, some of them are criminals and informants to criminals, it is an embarrassment to the territory, especially to visitors.
He stressed that while the administration focuses on infrastructure development, security remains a priority, warning that some beggars could be linked to criminal activities.
