A Federal High Court in Kano has removed the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Sani Malumfashi, for being a card-carrying member of the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The case was brought by Aminu Tiga and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Justice S.A. Amobede ruled that Malumfashi’s political affiliation violated the 1999 Constitution and disqualified him from holding office.
The court also nullified the appointment of the commission’s secretary Kabir Zakiraifor not being a civil servant, declaring both officials and their activities concerning the 2024 Local Government Election invalid.
The court further ordered the police and security agencies to enforce the ruling and ensure compliance with constitutional provisions regarding the electoral body’s leadership.
