The Nigerian Army says therr is no leadership vacuum despite the official leave of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
In a statement issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, it was clarified that the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim, is acting on behalf of the COAS during his absence.
Nwachukwu explained that the Army is a well-structured institution with protocols in place for such situations.
“The Army Headquarters assures the public that the Nigerian Army remains fully operational, committed to national security, and ready to defend the country against any threats,” Nwachukwu said, debunking claims of delays or confusion within the Army due to the COAS’s absence.
SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that top military officers are jostling for Lagbaja’s position following his current undisclosed health condition which had forced him to embark on medical leave abroad.
