The Senate has commenced a probe into a report that men of the Department of State Services, DSS surrounded the National Assembly ahead of plans to impeach the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio dismissed reports and asked the Senate Committee on Special Duties led by Shehu Kaka to immediately investigate the matter and report back at plenary in the next twenty- four hours.
A publication identified as Order Paper had reported that the precinct of the National Assembly appeared like a warzone Wednesday morning as men of DSS have taken over amidst speculations of an impeachment move against Sen. Akpabio.
But the Senate President said, “But I hope the public is aware that this is fake news and that the chamber is very stable and the issue of impeachment does not come in.”
Meanwhile, the Senate also confirmed the appointment of 21 nominees as federal commissioners to serve on the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
The commissioners are Linda Oti (Abia), Akpan Effiong (Akwa Ibom), Enefe Ekene (Anambra), Steve Ugba (Benue), Eyonsa Whiley (Cross River), Aruviere Egharhevwe (Delta), and Nduka Awuregu (Ebonyi).
Among those confirmed were Prof. Olusegun Adekunle-Wright; Dr. Nathaniel Adojutelegan, Amosun Akintayo and Mrs Linda Nkechi-Oti.
Others are Victor Eboigbe (Edo), Wumi Ogunlola (Ekiti), Ozo Obodougo (Enugu), Kabir Mashi (Katsina) Adamu Fand (Kano), Kunle Wright (Lagos), Almakura Abdulkadir (Nasarawa), Bako Shetima (Niger) and Amosun Akintoye (Ogun).
Nathaniel Adejutelegan (Ondo), Saad Bello Ibrahim (Plateau), Aji Anuluri (Yobe), and Bello Rabiu Garba (Zamfara) were also confirmed.
