The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of Amb. Illiya Damagum.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, is in line with the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC urged all party organs, leaders, and members to stay focused during this period.
The NWC also confirmed that preparations are ongoing for the Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for Thursday, October 24th, 2024.
Earlier, Ologunagba whose suspension was announced in a statement by PDP National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom announced the suspension of key national officers including National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum, National Secretary and Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
He said their suspension was over a letter they sent to the Court of Appeal, allegedly contradicting the party’s position in a case involving defected Rivers State lawmakers.
