The Senate has given approval to its Committee on Code of Conducts, Ethics, and Privileges to issue arrest warrants against officials in ministries, departments, and agencies that fail to heed the summons of the chambers.
This followed a notification to that effect by the chairman of the committee, Senator Neda Imasuen, and subsequent approval by the lawmakers and the president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The move may not be unconnected with the persistent absence of the management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and 12 other agencies at a hearing to respond to queries raised against them in the 2019 audit report.
