The senate has called on agencies saddled with the responsibility of tackling corruption in the country to develop a centralized data system that can be syndicated among anti-graft agencies, to aid investigation and record keeping.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio represented by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin said this at a workshop organised by the EFCC and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) for Justices and judges in Nigeria aimed at fostering collaboration between the Judiciary and the anti-graft agency towards enhancing the dispensation of justice in Nigeria.
According to the lawmaker, a unified database will unbundle all forms of difficulty in contact tracing and help security outfits share intelligence to easily apprehend criminals for speedy trial and dispensation of judgement.
Also present at the event was the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun who appealed to the EFCC, ICPC and NFIU to partner the Judiciary, for efficient investigation and prosecution to avoid clogging the wheel of justice in court.
Meanwhile, EFCC chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede lamented that the agency’s activities have continued to be impeded by court orders restraining it from carrying out its investigation, as high-profile cases are frequently adjournment by courts, for different reasons.
