Member representing Somolu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, has disclosed that governors from the South West are already lobbying for key positions in the South West Development Commission.
Hon. Kuye who sponsored the bill at the House of Representatives made this known while speaking on a Lagos based Radio Station over the Weekend.
“As soon as the bill for the Commission was passed, I remember I got some calls from some of the governors commending the bill, and I can tell you authoritatively that there’s serious lobbying to ensure that they have the Chairman, Managing Director, and other positions,” Hon. Kuye revealed.
He further noted that the governors, through various events and platforms after the passage of the bill in the House of Representatives, have expressed their gratitude to the South West Caucus of lawmakers for initiating the bill.
Hon. Kuye expressed confidence that those selected to lead the Commission would be fully committed to achieving its objectives.
Discussing the vision behind the establishment of the Commission, Kuye explained, “The vision behind the Commission was to provide more employment for people of the South West region and, more importantly, to bridge the infrastructural gap in the region.”
He also highlighted the region’s environmental challenges, saying, “If you look at the topography of the region, you’ll realize we’re losing our lands to serious erosion. The Commission would address that.”
Additionally, Hon. Kuye noted that the Commission would support state governments in tackling security issues by enhancing the operations of the Regional Security Network, Amotekun.
He expressed hope that President Bola Tinubu would promptly assent to the bill to enable the Commission to begin its work.
