
The Government of Benin Republic has confirmed the arrest of former sports minister – Oswald Homeky and businessman Olivier Boko on suspicion of plotting a coup.
It was gathered that Homeky was caught after 1 a.m. on Tuesday while handing over six bags of cash to the head of the republican guard, who is also in charge of President Patrice Talon’s security.
Prosecutor Elon’m Mario Metonou said the Commander who was paid off to not resist the coup d’etat planned for tomorrow had also been arrested while investigations are ongoing to identify other suspects.
Talon, who has led Benin since 2016, faces criticism for what critics describe as an increasingly authoritarian rule.
