Barely 16 months after his last conviction, 48-year-old businessman, Christian Ifeanyi Ogbuji has been arrested again by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Ikeja Lagos for importing 817 wraps of cocaine.
The drug weighs 19.40 kilograms with an estimated street value of Four Billion Six Hundred and Fifty Six Million Naira (N4,656,000,000.00).
Previously arrested in May 2023 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for ingesting 93 pellets of cocaine, Ogbuji was sentenced to two years imprisonment but paid a ₦3 million fine to avoid jail time.
Despite this, he resumed his criminal activities and was intercepted during a secondary search at Lagos airport on September 18.
Investigation reveals Ogbuji is an unrepentant kingpin within the network of drug cartels operating between Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria and others in the West African sub-region.
