The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) have threatened to go on strike indefinitely over outstanding salaries.
On Wednesday, SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim and NASU General Secretary Prince Peters Adeyemi issued a joint statement.
The unions handed the federal government a three-week deadline to pay their unpaid salaries.
According to them, the Federal Government’s 10-day grace period to pay four months’ arrears salary to university workers expires on July 26, 2024.
The unions issued another three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government beginning Tuesday, September 17, to act on their demands or face an indefinite strike, threatened to close institutions and inter-university institutes if payments were not made within the new grace period.
