A European Union Court has voided the $1.67 billion fine imposed on Google for reportedly violating competition regulations by prioritizing its own shopping links in its search results.
The EU imposed the penalty in 2019, alongside two other fines of €2.42 billion and €4.34 billion for illegal practices regarding Android mobile devices to strengthen the dominance of Google’s search engine.
But Google argued that the European Commission had failed to show that the company’s different treatment of rivals was abusive and that different treatment alone was not anti-competitive.
But the Court in a terse judgement said it annulled the fine in its entirety.
