Armed men have reportedly attacked a military training camp in Mali’s capital, Bamako.
This follows gunfire heard earlier on Tuesday in the neighborhood of Banankabougou, including areas close to the main international airport.
Mali is one of several West African countries fighting an Islamist insurgency that took root in Mali’s arid north in 2012 and has since spread across the Sahel, recently reaching the northern parts of coastal countries.
Thousands have been killed, and millions displaced as militants continue their advance, with military efforts struggling to push them back. Both government forces and militants have been accused of committing violence against civilians.
