Contrary to an earlier threat, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, Monday Okpebholo has signed the peace accord ahead of the September 21 governorship election.
The APC, at a briefing by Emperor Jarret Tenebe threatened that the party would not sign, having lost faith in the Police since the killing of a police inspector Onuh Akor who was the orderly to the candidate of the party.
But in a surprising twist, Okpebholo showed up at the signing ceremony and signed the accord alongside other 16 other parties.
Chairman of the Presidential Peace Committee, General Abdulsalami Abubakar hailed the parties and reiterated that the signing of the peace pact would send a strong message of peace to the electorate.
But the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo, Anthony Aziegbemi and its Candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who were present during the signing of the peace accord declined to sign.
Aziegbemi told newsmen that they were declining because 10 members of the party were being detained by the police in Abuja.
