The Labour Minister of Tamil Nadu in Southern India, C.V. Ganesan, will meet with Samsung Electronics officials on Thursday to address a four-day strike at the company’s consumer electronics plant in Sriperumbudur.
Hundreds of workers have boycotted work, demanding higher wages, union recognition, and reduced working hours.
The plant, located near Chennai, produces appliances like televisions and refrigerators, contributing 20%-30% to Samsung’s $12 billion annual revenue in India.
Tamil Nadu’s Labour Secretary, K. Veera Raghava Rao said the government remains committed to resolving the issue.
Samsung has not yet commented on the matter.
