The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University has declared an indefinite strike, marking the first internal strike since the institution’s founding in 2003.
ASUU branch Chairman, Dr. Suleiman Salihu Jauro, premised the action on poor teaching and learning conditions, non-implementation of the 2021 Memorandum of Action (MoA) between ASUU and the state government, which promised increased funding and payment of accumulated Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
Jauro also highlighted the government’s failure to provide the agreed N50 million annual funding and implement the N30,000 minimum wage signed into law in 2020.
The union also raised concerns over unpaid promotion arrears and non-implementation of wage awards for academic staff.
The Union appealed to students and parents for understanding, urging them to pressure the government to address these longstanding issues.
