Vice President Kashim Shettima has convened an emergency meeting on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri; the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to address the recent fuel price hike and scarcity.
This comes after NNPC Limited increased pump prices from ₦617 to ₦897, causing a spike in commodity and transportation costs.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, assured the public that the crisis would soon be resolved. He stated that NNPC has sufficient fuel supplies to meet national demand and urged Nigerians to remain calm.
Lokpobiri emphasized that increased availability of petroleum products would foster competition and potentially lower prices. He also stressed that the government was not responsible for the recent price hikes.
