The Nigeria Labour Congress has accused President Bola Tinubu of betraying workers and citizens following recent petrol price hikes and nationwide scarcity.
NLC President Joe Ajaero described the recent hike in pump price across stations, as “traumatic and nightmarish.”
Ajaero revealed that during minimum wage negotiations, Tinubu offered a choice: N250,000 with increased fuel prices or N70,000 with stable prices.
Labour chose the latter to avoid further hardship for Nigerians.
However, Ajaero criticised the government for failing to stabilize fuel prices and allowing further increases, jeopardizing livelihoods and businesses. He also mentioned unfulfilled promises regarding electricity tariff hikes.
The NLC leader argued that the government’s market-oriented policies have brought Nigerians to an “all-time low,” leading to recent protests against hunger and poor governance.
Ajaero expressed deep concern over the ongoing confusion surrounding petrol prices and the government’s approach to resolving fuel subsidy issues.
