Women in Edo State, under the banner “Edo Women,” have called on former Governor Adams Oshiomhole to issue a public apology for his remarks about Governor Godwin Obaseki’s wife, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, concerning her childlessness.
The demand was made during a protest in Benin, led by Hon. Maria Edeko, Deputy Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Hon. Edeko condemned Oshiomhole’s comments, labeling them as a “taboo” and a “sacrilege” against Edo traditions.
“We rise as women of Edo, home and abroad, to denounce this shameful conduct of Adams Oshiomhole,” Edeko declared, urging all women and couples affected by similar struggles to join in condemning the former governor’s words.
The women praised Mrs. Obaseki for her contributions to the state, highlighting her efforts in supporting children, women, and vulnerable groups.
They also emphasized that her comments during the PDP governorship campaign did not justify Oshiomhole’s “vile” response.
