The governing Council of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State has directed all students to vacate the campus today, following yesterday’s protest by students, over the hike in tuition fees.
The students who blocked roads leading to the campus armed with placards, rejected a hike in tuition fee, stating that the school management is insensitive to their plights, wondering why a hike in fee is considered amidst economic hardship.
However, the registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, in a circular today, directed the students to vacate the school premises, following a meeting where the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Senate approved a shut for three weeks, till September 20, 2024.
Meanwhile, according to a statement by a media platform in the institution, Union of Campus Journalists, the students have resolved to reconvene and resume their peaceful protest, noting that the break is a ploy to weaken the momentum of their protests against the recent hike in tuition fees.
