The Chairman of the University of Ibadan Governing Council, Adebisi Akande, has declined his allowances, requesting they be allocated to deserving, indigent students studying Science courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
During the inaugural council meeting, Akande described his role as Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Council as a national service, for which he seeks no remuneration. He assured that the Adebisi Akande Foundation would cover any shortfall to ensure beneficiaries are not left unsupported.
The Council then approved the revised fees for the 2023/2024 session, as recommended by the Senate, and urged students to complete registration by September 4, 2024, to prepare for first-semester exams.
While expressing sympathy for the students, the Council noted the fee review was necessary due to current economic challenges and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to quality education.
The Council encouraged Students to explore loan funds (NELFUND) and scholarships available for financial support.
