Veteran Nigerian singer Onyeka Onwenu has been laid to rest in Lagos following her passing on July 30.
Onwenu collapsed at the 80th birthday celebration of Emzor Pharmaceutical’s founder, Stella Okoli, and was later pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital.
A service of songs was held earlier today at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, attended by prominent figures including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and the Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti.
The famous ‘one love’ and ‘You and I’ crooner who had instructed before her death that she wanted no fanfare during her internment was then buried at Ikoyi.
Onwenu was not only a gifted musician with numerous hits but also a broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist.
She is survived by her two sons.
