The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested and repatriated Zimbabwean Bishop, Eben K. Nhiwatawi for violating Nigeria’s immigration laws and protocols.
The repatriation, approved by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, followed the Bishop’s apprehension in Yola, Adamawa State, on August 24.
NIS Public Relations Officer Kenneth Udo explained that Bishop Nhiwatawi entered Nigeria on August 21, 2024, with a Tourist Visa (F5A), intended solely for tourism.
However, it was discovered that he was participating in a Methodist Church leadership election, which violated the terms of his visa as outlined in the Nigeria Visa Policy 2024.
In response, the Comptroller General of the NIS, with ministerial approval, ordered the Bishop’s immediate repatriation.
Udo emphasized that while the NIS supports lawful foreign investment and social activities, it will not tolerate any breaches of the country’s immigration laws.
