The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has condemned a viral video in which a Canada-based woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, made threatening remarks against Nigerians of Yoruba and Benin descent.
In the video, the woman, speaking in Pidgin English, urged viewers to poison Yoruba and Benin people.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, called on security agencies to trace and prosecute those behind what they described as a “macabre dance.”
The group emphasised that while the video might seem like the work of a “deranged psychopath,” concerns raised by others necessitated a response.
Ohanaeze clarified that there is no evidence the woman is Igbo, and her actions do not reflect Igbo values of thoughtfulness and discretion.
They also highlighted the strong cultural ties between the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo people, emphasizing the importance of unity and inter-ethnic harmony.
The organization assured Afenifere, the Yoruba, and Edo communities that the threat should be dismissed as baseless and meaningless.
