The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities have scheduled a follow-up meeting for September 6, 2024.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, made this known at the end of a meeting with the union leadership at the Federal Ministry of Education.

He said the meeting resolved that ASUU leadership would take decisions reached to members and return with feedback on the next adjourned date while the  government continues to act on some agreements reached at the meeting.

On his part, the ASUU President expressed the hope that all issues would be resolved before the September 6 meeting.

Asked to explain what issues were and the agreement reached, both parties refused to speak further.

However, ASUU has in the past few weeks restated it’s demands for a comprehensive overhaul of the university system, including improved infrastructure, enhanced academic freedom, and a more sustainable funding model.

Other demands of the union, included, the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, and release of earned allowances for university lecturers.
