The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Bennett Igweh says several blood-stained weapons, including cutlasses and knives, were recovered from 94 suspects from the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, following last Sunday’s riot in Abuja.
The clash between the sect members and Police officers resulted in the death of two officers and injuries to four others, including a female officer.
Parading the suspects, Igweh described the IMN as a proscribed terrorist organisation, that had no right to march or assemble.
He stated that the suspects would face charges in court and assured that the command is actively pursuing the group’s sponsors and other members.
