The Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Kogi State’s November 2023 election, Murtala Ajaka, has called for an investigation into a violent attack on him and his supporters outside the Supreme Court in Abuja after his appeal challenging the victory of APC’s Usman Ododo was dismissed.
Ajaka condemned the attack as “an assault on democracy” and urged the Inspector General of Police and security agencies to thoroughly investigate and bring the culprits to justice.
He expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court’s judgment, stating that while he respects the court’s role, he rejects the outcome.
He said, “The judgement has left many questions unanswered and has further eroded the trust of the Nigerian people in the judiciary.
“We reject the outcome even though we have no other options available we will abide by the decision of the apex court.”
Despite the setback, Ajaka encouraged his supporters to prepare for 2027, promising to “regroup and come back stronger.”
He also pledged to support the EFCC in its efforts to hold former governor Yahaya Bello accountable.
