Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has accused key leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of destroying the party.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Melaye criticized the acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, along with Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature, alleging that they have irreparably damaged the party.
Melaye also hinted at issues of “commercialisation and privatisation” within the PDP, suggesting that the party has lost its way, stating, “PDP is now once upon a time.”
These accusations come amid growing tensions within the PDP, with reports indicating that the National Working Committee (NWC) might sanction Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu over an alleged letter to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, seen as an act of anti-party activity. Some party leaders, including members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), have pushed for disciplinary action.
However, Damagum responded defiantly on Thursday, asserting that he will not be intimidated into resigning.
Speaking at the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees, he dismissed the calls for his resignation as attempts to undermine him, stating, “The more you mention me, the more popular I become.”
