The Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested nine individuals for allegedly engaging in various criminal activities across the state.
The suspects were apprehended at different locations and are accused of crimes including kidnapping, robbery, stealing, and attempted murder.
Speaking at the corps headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, State Commander Adetunji Adeleye highlighted the ongoing efforts to maintain security in the state. He announced the creation of a new unit, “Amot Rangers,” tasked with combating criminal activities within forested areas, following directives from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Amot Rangers will establish six control points at strategic locations along troubled borders with Edo, Kogi, Kwara, and Ekiti States. These specially trained rangers are dedicated to ensuring the safety of lives and property by curbing the activities of criminals in these areas.
Adeleye also revealed that among the arrested suspects are members of a syndicate involved in stealing commercial motorcycles, known as okadas, and killing the riders.
Additionally, two suspects were caught attempting to kill security personnel guarding petroleum products. The weapons used in their crimes have been recovered by the authorities.
