The first £1 coin featuring King Charles III has entered circulation in the UK, marking a significant moment for collectors.
A total of 2.975 million of these coins will be distributed through post offices and banks nationwide this week.
The coin’s “tails” side showcases two British bees, reflecting the king’s dedication to conservation while the “heads” side features King Charles’ official effigy.
Director of Commemorative Coins at The Royal Mint, Rebecca Morgan, expressed pride in continuing the tradition of producing circulating coins for British monarchs, now including King Charles III.
These new coins will co-circulate with those bearing Queen Elizabeth II’s image, gradually replacing older ones as they wear out.
