The current world champion and world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan failed to reach the final of the women’s 100m hurdles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday.
Amusan finished third in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles behind United States’ Alayasha Johnson, who posted a time of 12.39 seconds, and Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, who recorded 12.50 seconds.
Meanwhile, Four Nigerian athletes, Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene and Chidi Okezie were earlier disqualified from participating in the final of men’s 4x400m for alleged violation of a rule of the competition.
The athletes were disqualified for stepping on the line in their heat at the semi-final stage and therefore will no longer compete in the final of men’s 4x400m.
The quartet had earlier qualified for the final of men’s 4x400m, finishing 2nd in heat 2.
This result adds to Nigeria’s disappointing performance in the games, with the nation’s athletes yet to secure a medal as the Olympics near their conclusion on Sunday.
