The Australian Olympic Committee has confirmed the arrest of a hockey player, Tom Craig who allegedly attempted to buy cocaine in Paris.
The incident occurred at the base of a building in Paris’ Pigalle neighborhood, known for its vibrant nightlife and red-light district on Tuesday night.
According to French Media reports, a young drug dealer was being monitored by police, who swiftly moved in to apprehend both him and the alleged buyer, Craig.
The Australian Olympic Committee said, “No charges have been laid. The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member.”
Craig is a seasoned Australian hockey player with a decade-long career, boasting 101 appearances for the national team.
His achievements include a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
However, his team’s recent campaign ended in disappointment, with Australia being knocked out of the men’s hockey tournament by the Netherlands earlier this week, missing out on a medal opportunity.
