The United Kingdom is facing its worst riots in 13 years as far-right demonstrators over the weekend attacked hotels housing asylum seekers.
In Rotherham, hundreds gathered near a Holiday Inn Express, throwing bricks at police, breaking hotel windows, and setting fires.
Footage seen by VeonewsNG showed police with shields facing a barrage of missiles from masked rioters.
Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield condemned the “disgusting” behavior, promising swift action against perpetrators.
A similar incident occurred near Birmingham, with protesters targeting another hotel known to shelter asylum seekers.
These riots followed a stabbing rampage in Southport that left three girls dead as well as false online rumours claiming the 17-year-old suspect was a Muslim immigrant, though he was identified in court as British-born Axel Rudakubana.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has vowed consequences for those involved in the “far-right thuggery.”
He said there was no justification for attacks on mosques, Muslims, and ethnic minorities, assuring targeted communities of justice and safety.
