The Nigerian senior female basketball team, D’Tigress, made history on Sunday by defeating Canada 79-70 to reach their first-ever Olympic quarterfinals.
This victory came in their last Group B match of the Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics, held at Pierre Mauroy Stadium, France.
The game was tightly contested, with both teams tied at 18 points each by the end of the first quarter.
By halftime, Canada led 41-37.
However, D’Tigress staged a remarkable comeback, leading 55-46 by the end of the third quarter and sealing the game with a 79-70 win.
Point guard Ezinne Kalu, a three-time Afrobasket champion, was a standout player, scoring 21 points and displaying relentless effort on the court.
