Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has condemned Thursday’s protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing mass uprisings, looting, and attempts to take over government buildings.

During a live broadcast, Egbetokun ordered all police units to be on red alert to ensure public safety.

He reported widespread destruction, including attacks on police stations and looting of public and private warehouses.

“In FCT, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe, unprovoked attacks on our security personnel have resulted in one policeman being murdered and others seriously injured,” Egbetokun said.

He emphasized the police’s readiness to respond swiftly and decisively. While acknowledging the right to protest, he stressed the importance of citizens being law-abiding and loyal.

Egbetokun also mourned the loss of four lives in Borno due to an IED explosion and highlighted the police’s prevention of a similar incident in Lagos.
