Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has cautioned against the planned nationwide protest, stating it would not serve the country’s interests.
In a statement released by Force Spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday night the IGP emphasized that Nigeria cannot afford violent protests.
Acknowledging global economic challenges, Egbetokun assured that the government is working to mitigate their impact.
He reflected on the 2020 EndSARS protest, highlighting the breakdown of law and order that followed the destruction of police infrastructure.
“There are enough lessons to learn from previous violent protests in Nigeria,” the IGP warned, stressing the potential dangers of unchecked demonstrations.
While recognizing the right to protest, he emphasized that it must be exercised peacefully.
He called on all Nigerians to exercise this right responsibly and to avoid actions that could escalate into violence.
