The strongman of Rwanda, President Paul Kagame has secured a fourth term with 99.15% of the votes cast.
The outcome of the polls was declared by the election commission which also put turnout at a staggeringly high 98% of the nine million persons registered to vote.
The election was a replay of the 2017 polls where the same contenders – Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and an independent, Philippe Mpayimana lost heavily to Kagame.
While Kagame has been heavily criticized for arbitrarily jailing his political opponents, as well as extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances Kagame remains popular in Rwanda for aiding economic growth and developing infrastructure.
